Community Volunteer Work Helping Hands Grant
As a Construction Inspector you will initially be reporting to a water supply capital project construction site near Lexington and will be accountable for on-site inspections and acceptance of construction work for capital engineering projects. You will also be conducting on-site inspections of construction projects ensuring conformance to contract documents and industry safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Enforce compliance with the requirements of permits or approvals granted for construction
- Act as an on-site contact for construction contractors and serving as a liaison between construction contractors and Project Managers
- Provide oversight to resolve questions related to the engineering of assigned projects and understand when to elevate those questions to the Project Manager
- Prepare project documentation in accordance with Company standards
- Review and approve construction contractor progress payments and record drawings
- Inspect water construction projects including pipelines, plants and other facilities for compliance with standard specifications and details, approved plans, and generally accepted construction practices
- Monitor contractor performance and compliance with our and OSHA safety practices
- Maintain logs and records reflecting construction progress and procedures
- Perform research on existing systems to assist with the planning and execution of short-duration shutdowns and fire flow tests
- Complete inspection reports documenting inspection findings
- Oversight and coordination of pressure testing of tapping sleeves, and water mains
- Verify all valves within the test section are in the open position
- Witness the disinfection of water lines

What’s required to be successful:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in an Inspector role
- In lieu of Inspector role experience, we will consider candidates that have worked as a foreman/supervisor (or higher level) on major construction projects
- Minimal travel required – 80% in the field, 20% in the office – on occasion may require short-duration trips to other service areas outside of the Taylor/Lexington, Texas area
- Coordination and organization skills
- Ability to read engineering plans and specifications
- Communication skills – verbal, listening and recording
- Interpersonal skills – tact, diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation; attention to detail
- Knowledge of engineering specifications and surveying principles; construction means and method; procedures and Federal and Company safety regulations; critical path method scheduling principles
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and walk for several hours a day. Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat
