Job Description
A pipefitter specializes in the installation, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of industrial and commercial piping systems. They interpret blueprints and specifications to accurately assemble and install systems that transport substances such as water, steam, chemicals, and fuel. Their expertise is vital in industries like power generation, manufacturing, and construction where they often collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure seamless infrastructure integration. Must be familiar with HVAC systems, plumbing systems and industrial plant utilities utilizing boiler systems, steam piping, compressed air systems, hot and cold-water piping systems, and other process systems.
Job Responsibilities (List is not inclusive)
- Selects appropriate type and size of pipes, related materials, and equipment such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, based on job specifications.
- Utilizes tools and equipment for pipe installation, including cutting pipes using a hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and a pipe cutting machine.
- Threads pipes with a threading machine and bends them by hand or using pipe-bending tools and machines.
- Assembles and installs a diverse range of metal or non-metal pipes and pipe fittings, employing methods such as threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cement joints.

- Secure pipes to structures using brackets, clamps, and hangers, utilizing both hand and power tools.
- Specializes in the installation and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, encompassing compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.
- Conducts testing of piping systems to identify potential leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and monitoring gauges attached for indications of leaks.
- Responsible for loading, transporting, and unloading materials, tools, equipment, and supplies, and undertaking minor maintenance and cleaning activities for tools and equipment.
- Required to work at heights from aerial lifts and operate powered equipment.
- Additionally, fulfills any other duties as required by the role.
- Previous pipe fabrication experience
- Ability to read and comprehend project drawings components.
- Must be able to self-check own work to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and schedule requirements.
- Adheres to all safety protocols, project rules, and company policies and procedures.
Work Environment
- Required to adhere to large amounts of noise, standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
- Required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level.
